How to keep your glider quiet and smooth for years

How to keep your glider quiet and smooth for years

Most gliders don't get noisy overnight — small habits over time are usually the cause. The easiest thing you can do is keep the chair on a flat, level surface. A slight tilt puts uneven pressure on the glide mechanism, and over months that can turn into a squeak.

Every few weeks, take a moment to check that any visible screws or frame joints are still snug. Wood settles a little with changes in temperature and humidity, especially in the first year, so a quick check-and-tighten routine goes a long way.

If you do notice a squeak, resist the urge to spray general household oil on the mechanism — it can attract dust and make things worse. A small amount of dry, silicone-based lubricant on the moving parts is usually enough to quiet things down.

Vacuum the fabric regularly with a soft brush attachment, and wipe spills with a damp cloth right away rather than letting them sit. Keeping the cushions clean isn't just about looks — built-up dirt and moisture can work their way into the frame over time.
